Standard engine filters (also known as full-flow filters) are incapable of maintaining oil purity at a level that prevents most engine wear. The primary job of your vehicle's standard full flow filter is to trap large contamination particles ranging in size from 15-40 microns, while at the same time allowing 7-10 gallons of oil to pass through the filter per minute. The most damaging contamination particles however are not in the 15-40 micron range, but in the smaller 5-15 micron range. Just for reference, a human hair is 100 microns. Particles in this smaller range get wedged between moving engine parts, causing friction, resulting in engine wear. Like all diesel enthusiasts, we are always looking for ways to protect our investment and prolong the life of our trucks. OilGuard was an easy choice. OilGuard's ultra-fine 1-micron bypass filtration system dramatically decreases engine wear, and provides extended engine life.

Like kidney dialysis for your engine, a small percentage of pressurized oil (less than 5%) is diverted for purification through OilGuard's ultra-fine 1-micron bypass filter.

The flow rate is minimal at 1 quart per minute. Oil pressure within your engine is NOT AFFECTED. Purified oil leaving the bypass filter is returned to a non-pressurized location. Extended oil drain intervals are commonplace, however we recommend that users conduct regular oil analysis to check the viscosity of the engine oil on a 6.0L PSD. The standard 6.0L engine is known to shear oil, and regular oil analysis in conjunction with the OilGuard bypass filtration system will ensure maximum oil and engine life.
